24th January :
Taking a cue from the gang at London
Underground Comics, the Bedsit Journal will be running a stall at Camden
Market this Saturday (26th of January). We did our first table there last weekend,
and it was interesting to see the reactions to this kind of comic and the other
titles we were selling. Some people didn't know what to make of it! I hope the
stall works out, because I love this grass roots way of getting comics out to
a wider audience.
For more information about which days we'll be there, and what comics we're
selling, contact Peter Lally.

19th December : Merry Festivities from your old pals at The Bedsit Journal!

31st November :
On the off chance anyone's actually reading these 'updates', here are some more
details about the new Bedsit Journal...
Stories that are either completed or in progress include :
"Red Dress", "The One I've Waited For", 'There's a Tear
In My Beer', & "How George Herriman Got Me Laid", by Richard Cowdry
(me, that is).
"The Writer", "Chumpo", & "Mission Control",
by Richard Cowdry & Peter Lally.
And... the return of Donald Hamilton in "The Lights Have Gone Out"!
I'll put up some art here soon.
A couple of great new British comics came my way recently...
"Animal Hospital" by Nurse Pussy
and "Skinny Bill" by Hannah Glickstein.

Both are very funny and highly original, created by artists with great potential.
There are a lot of decent comics coming out of the UK these days ... if you
can find them!

comix action this week, but Bedsit Journalist Peter Lally posts :"I was
in a hippy singer-songwriter bar, watching a friend perform, and I came across 'Trent
Miller & The Skeleton Jive'. I truly recommend Bedsit Journal
readers take a listen.
I've suffered innumerable unknown musical acts over the years, all
of no interest and often considerable irritation, except for this Trent
Miller and one other. Are we witnessing the new King of Country?".
Meanwhile, in other media, here's a great 1933 film by British animator Len Lye.

On a recent trip to Amsterdam, Peter Lally described Lambiek as follows:
Per the guide book it is Amsterdam's largest, oldest and best comic
shop. It had a gallery, and it was stocked A-Z, with loads of books,
nearly all of which appeared to be quality comics - I presume European.
Almost no (if any) Manga stuff, very little superhero stuff of any sort, and
the guys there seemed cool.
Lambiek sounds like comic book heaven!

31st March 2006 : Richard Cowdry has a new website.
15th February 2006 : NEWS ITEM!
Grave Graham
Bettany, the author of such mini comix as Hong Kong Pussy and Hump Comix has
been sacked from his job because of the offensive nature of his artwork.
Graham, who has been working as a cinema projectionist in North Manchester since
1997 was suspended from work and then sacked due to a complaint made by a co-worker
who discovered an issue of Hong Kong Pussy on the artists desk.
On seeking advice from his union representative, Bettany was advised to destroy
all copies of the comic and burn the original artwork.
If anyone has ever wondered if an underground comic still has the
power to shock, this should answer your question.

Dem Ol' Bedsit Blues
I got no woman
I got no place of my own
I got no luck
I got no hope
Only one thing I got
I got dem ol' bedsit blues
Rain leaking thru my roof like blues
Cupboards falling down like yesterdays
On my bed, I don't sleep so good
Winters setting in
Lord knows I need some warmth again
Bedsit Blues
Dey fuck you up
